A set of dining room chairs belonging to General Douglas MacArthur during his days in the Philippines has been donated to the USS Battleship South Dakota Memorial. Two captain's chairs and four side chairs were donated by former Navy veteran Don Pratt, a South Dakota native.
Dave Witte, President of the Battleship Memorial said "We appreciate having these historical items added to our collection. General MacArthur's role in winning the war in the Pacific during World War II is well documented. Having some of his family's history as a part of our collection is a terrific gift".
Witte said the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial is very appreciative to all persons involved including board member James Kirschman, retired Navy Veteran Don Pratt and Chuck Lindstrom, Rockford, IL for assisting in acquisition of the most recent gift to the Memorial.
These genuine artifacts will go on exhibit at the Battleship Memorial site in Sioux Falls for the first time in the 2011 season. The Memorial is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
